Izzy's Leg Surgery

Late June, 2016, Izzy damaged her right knee... which is located on her right, rear leg. She went into a serious limp that only got worse.

It happened when she saw some deer next to our property and she jumped from the porch and came back in pain. A trip to the vet and some x-rays showed the damage very clearly and from there, we were recommended to the Veterinary Surgery of Birmingham.

Upon further examination, the damage became even more clear and it would require surgery.
We had no choice so... a week and four days later, we drove back to Birmingham (AL) and dropped her off for the repair work. We would pick her up the next day and bring her home.

The first six weeks were tough, at best. We were given a series of medications and, to her unhappiness, a transparent plastic cone. She hated the cone but, we had no choice. For six weeks, she was supposed to wear it but after four, we retired it.

She never once tried to dive into the surgical area.

At the seventh week, we took her back and she was doing fine but, we had to mind her outdoor activity with a leash until the end of the twelfth week. This we did and today, she is her old self again.

Izzy the Great, once more rules her yard.

Our sincerest thanks and appreciation to Veterinary Surgery of Birmingham and Veterinary Surgeon, Antonio J. Ballagas, along with, and to, the support from members of the family.
